When a newspaper report of a medical miracle catches Matt's eye, he and India go in search of Dr. Hale in the hope he is more magical doctor than miracle worker and can lead them to Chronos. But Hale turns out to be an apothecary magician keen to educate the public about magic.

Their disappointment in not finding Chronos is soon forgotten when Hale is murdered, and Matt becomes a suspect. With Matt's nemesis Sheriff Payne influencing the investigating detective, India and Matt know they must find the real killer, or risk his freedom, and ultimately, his life. Time is running out as they hunt for a killer capable of turning medicine into poison with a magic spell, as well as continue the search for Chronos. A search that must end in success before Matt's malfunctioning watch stops altogether.

The Apothecary Poison Glass and Steele Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) C J Archer Marian Hussey CJ Archer Books

I started this series with a sense of hope, but like that hope, my patience is bogging down. Far too much of this series involves conversations that go nowhere, and the constant lack of forward progress gets on my nerves. While I appreciate the niceties of Victorian society, I wish the characters would either go forward with their romance or end it. Secondary characters who were fun when first introduced have barely been any further developed (I'm looking at YOU, Duke and Willie) and the pace is maddeningly slow.

Why am I still reading it? Because the world-building is marvelous, as is the initial concept that has the hero on his quest. Ms Archer's imagination is rich and fun; I hope there is more to come and at a faster pace given the cliffhanger ending of this one.

The Apothecary Poison Glass and Steele Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) C J Archer Marian Hussey CJ Archer Books Reviews

Darn it! There is only one book left to read before I have to wait for book five. I remember now why ultimately I don't like to read series.
More mystery is added in this installment of the Glass and Steele series, right after another is washed away. I love that. And while there were growth and revelation on Indie's character, there is still a lot to learn, I feel. At this point, I'm not sure if my impatience about the mystery surrounding Indie and the desire to see something happen between her and Mr. Glass is due to my obsession with the series, or slack of C.J. Archer. I'm sure it is on me, I'm not a very patient person.
The pace of this book moved much like the first - fast and furious. I enjoyed it more than the first and second. I downloaded the next one "The Magician's Diary". I'm excited to start reading it and see what adventure Matt and Indie experience.
But first, I signed up for C.J. Archer's newsletter and downloaded The Traitor's Gamble. On her site, she says that this is set 5 years before The Watchmaker's Daughter, but should be read after reading The Watchmaker's Daughter.
No, TNT yet, but I retain a positive.
I am honestly not sure if it is just because I know the characters more or what, but this was my favorite story by far. I like how the crew (or at least I think of them) probably already think something is going on between Matt and India and they are very happy about it even though Matt and India are all at odds about it. The only thing that sort of distressed me was that I swear this is the first one that ended in basically a cliff hangar.
Yes. This book hit just the right spot! After feeling like book two stalled the over arching story of Matt's watch, and any tension between Matt and India, this book brought it all back into motion. Once again, I found myself smiling through their exchanges and thoroughly enjoying each page of the book. The specific mystery of this book had me guessing and I did not predict the answers. I love the setting of smog filled London, how magic is subtle and hidden, but around when you look for it, and the blending of a fun mystery plot with learning about all the great characters. We had some great moments of learning more history of a few of the residents in the Mayfair home. I absolutely love how Archer has allowed there to be the sweetness and tension of romance while still being clean and not too "steamy". I have to admit, I read it in one evening (into the late night), and then re-read it again more slowly the next day. (Thankfully life allowed the brief distraction!)
A good book ruined by unexpressed love/turning away from love "for the good" of the other person; I know that other fans got frustrated by this issue in the Necromancer series; good book with excellent, filled-in characters, good plot, moves along, but it just gets so annoying-the whole non-love-story love story.one thing that I loved about Emily Chambers series is that the main characters express their love and add their issues to solve. There's enough plot that it doesn't need the endless relationship downer
I am giving The Apothecary’s Poison five stars because it, like the others in the series is brilliantly written. Archer’s writing style is captivating with superb dialogue, exciting plot and mind capturing settings. Each book has been a can’t-put-down experience. However, five stars doesn’t mean I’m totally happy with it. C.J., what were you thinking by ending with a double cliff hanger??? Seriously??? I was so ready for what I thought was going to happen, only to have my hopes dashed. I actually felt angry for a while. Is that a good thing? I sincerely hope the next in this series is coming soon. Oh, I’ll pre-order it, but please, give my poor heart a break in the next book. No, let me rephrase that…
